Notes on prewar O Gauge steam:
- the Lionel 257 was sold as Ives transitional train in 1930–31
- the Lionel 258 is a 257 with reverse mechanism
- the Lionel 249 is a modified 262 with red marker headlights on boiler front: produced 1936–39 in black and gun-metal
- in 1936–37 it had silver rim drivers
- in 1938–39 it had Baldwin disc drivers just like the 224, 225 and 226 locos
- the Lionel 259 was modified in 1939 and renamed to 258
- the Lionel 262 was sold as Ives 1663 transitional train in 1931
- the Lionel 263 is a modified 260 with red marker headlights and red fire box glow
- hence it is called the “late 258” to avoid mixing the 2–4−2 loco up with the older 2–4−0 257/258
- the Lionel 261 is a 262 with manual gear switch (only 1931–32)
- the Lionel 264 is a lookalike of the “Commodore Vanderbilt” stream liner
- the Lionel 265 is a 264 with with valve gear
- the Lionel 238 is a lookalike of the “Torpedo” stream liner
